Harnessing Soul Fire: Saturn + Neptune in Aries
My loves,
I’ve spent more than half my life in school, and I can say with certainty that my favorite teachers were also my toughest teachers—the ones who had the greatest expectations for their students, the ones who made us reach hard for understanding, participate in lively conversations, then teach one another something new in a unique and engaging way.
I worked my ass off in those classes, and sometimes resented them for the leisure hours they robbed from me, but in the end I felt such a deep sense of accomplishment, pride, and growth that I forgot about all the hours I spent chewing on pencils and practicing presentations. I became a different person because of them, and I was grateful for the work my teachers made me do to grow into a more evolved version of myself.
Whether or not you can relate to my love for challenging teachers, it’s the beginning of a new term at Life School for us all as Saturn moves into Aries today. And, like my most beloved teachers, she’s got a reputation for giving us just what we need to learn and grow into evermore mature and wise versions of ourselves.
Translation: the curriculum and tests ahead of us may be wicked hard at times, but the rewards will be well worth it if we choose to show up with integrity and humility.
Saturn in Pisces
Saturn stays in each sign for about 2.5 years, so I think of her transits as a sort of Master’s Degree in the areas of our lives she’s highlighting. During her time in Pisces over the past couple years, we have all been asked to bring our biggest dreams, soul’s yearnings, spiritual ideals, compassion, love, and creativity into form.
Clearly, those with the most power have not responded to that call, and we’re feeling the consequences of that neglect right now. But I believe that the majority of us do want a world grounded in collective care, and if we all work together, we can make it so.
On a personal level, each of us has been invited to give shape to the ineffable in the particular areas of our life that relate to the house Pisces occupies in our birth chart.
For example, Pisces is in my tenth house of public roles, career, and greater calling. During Saturn’s transit there, I have been a student of several somatic trauma-healing modalities and have been steadily growing my Somatic Soul Work private practice.
I’ve channeled my deep yearning to address personal and collective wounds through the cultivation of radical self-love (so Pisces!) via my structured professional offerings (Saturn).
Of course, like any Master’s Degree, this intensive period of learning and practice-building is just the beginning of a much longer journey for me, but Saturn’s capacity for dedication and form-giving has given me the foundation I need to expand into the work that’s been whispering my name for my whole life.
What house does Pisces occupy in your chart? In what ways have you been challenged to learn, grow, and mature in those areas over the past couple years?
Saturn in Aries
Turning toward the educational journey we are just now beginning, Saturn in Aries has a whole different vibe. While Pisces is an afternoon spent lying in a meadow watching the clouds shapeshift, Aries is ready to get up and GO!
Aries is the first spark of a fire. It’s all about action, movement, desire, drive, passion, and courage. Aries is brimming with warrior energy, and when wielded unskillfully it can be quite destructive.
But when Saturn enters the picture, Aries gets tempered. Saturn can help Aries live out its passions by getting it to write a long-term plan, map out the journey, and collect the supplies it needs to make it a successful one.
Like any young one reluctant to heed the warnings of a wise elder, we may learn some hard lessons about being impulsive, reactive, or overly active over the next couple of years. But if we work earnestly with the consequences of our actions, we may become masters of transforming our most potent passions into the solid ground we walk upon by the end of this Saturn transit.
Neptune in Aries
At the same time, Neptune recently moved into Aries and will be there for a whopping 14 years! As the guiding planet of Pisces, Neptune shares its dreamy, fluid energy. In Aries, it’s a wonder how this dewey-eyed lovebug will fare in all that heat. But it can.
Here’s how: Neptune is taking up residence in fiery Aries while oozing the truth that love, compassion, and a sense of interbeingness is necessary for humanity to survive and thrive.
Aries, for its part, infuses Neptune with the energy and courage it needs to bring those ideals into action. And with Saturn snuggled up close to Neptune for the next year, we also have a wise elder helping us channel our fierce love and energy into practical, strategic action.
On a societal level, this means that we are supported in our work as soul warriors to use our creativity and longing for collective liberation (Neptune) as the rocket fuel to fight oligarchy (Aries) and build the institutions we need to create a society where all beings are well housed, well fed, well rested, and have access to quality health care and meaningful work (Saturn).
Nobody else is going to create this world for us, and none of us can do it alone. We must do it together by playing our own tiny little part in working for the greater good.
Your Role in Collective Liberation
What role are you called to play in collective healing and liberation? The house that corresponds to Aries in your natal chart may hold some clues.
For me, Aries is in the 11th house of community and groups. And, right on time, I am feeling deeply drawn to bring my healing work into community settings in the form of workshops, gatherings, rites of passage, and rituals.
And what about you? If you’d like to explore what Saturn and Neptune in Aries are inviting you to grow into, I’d love to do a reading with you—recorded, on Zoom, or in person if you live in the Rogue Valley! You can explore my offerings here.
